In this times, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm still planning on blogging full-time but even though I already earn $500+/month through it, I'm still not looking to take the plunge. I'm not confident yet. I'll follow my gut feel. Fortunately, my at the time girlfriend, now wife, supported me all the way trough. Around 5 years ago I decided to give up my full time job as a teacher and switched to several online ventures. There's been up and downs but my wife has always stood by my side. Regarding the "wife money equation", wives do care about money a lot. It's not that they only worry about money, and not about you, it's that money brings them security. We males are more adventure prone, but wives prefer a fixed income that makes sure you'll pay the bills on time, etc, etc. I understand wives, they bring a balance to our adventurous side. Regarding choosing the safe path, i.e an average job, I can say that it's not always the safest bet, and for more on the topic you can read Seth Godin's books, he's a great advocate of not taking what seems as the safest bet. To sum up, I think the best is to strike a balance: build your cushion, have your wife on your side, and choose the path that you think will make you happier. This sounds like me a few years ago. The farthest she had gone online is her facebook farm. Thus, as she looks at the internet only as some place one jumps into when one is bored, she couldn't see how I could give up my job for it.
