Hi, thanks for confirming my experience. Google gives me very unhealthy stress sometimes because of this dance. The thing with this dance is that it disrupts some much needed income generation while google is at it.

I wouldn’t worry too much about PR. Focus on your content. Keep your keywords in mind and traffic will come.

Good article and you’re right, keywords in the domain name are a plus. Having them in there tells the search engines that your site is especially relevant to those keywords.

The Google dance you’re referring to happens to many people (probably most); it’s very common and it’s believed that happens when Google is trying to evaluate where to rank your site. You naturally climb the ranks with content and links but then at some point near the beginning of the journey it seems Google decides to take a look (not humans at Google) at your site and decide where it should be and it may temp fall back for a week or so and then reappear and usually higher than where it was before. Thanks for sharing your experience, will certainly let others know they’re not the only ones to experience this and it’s quite normal.

Hi James,

I’ve seen this dance with almost all my sites. A few have jumped to the first or second spot and haven’t moved since I launched them, but for the most part they drop for a while.

I had a site that was making me a steady $20 a day without fail and then nothing for 14 long painful days…. Google stresses me out sometimes.

To your point on the Keyword in the domain, Google loves it and Bing not so much. Getting high rankings in Bing is all about on page SEO and backlinks. Plus Bing users click ads way more often than Google users.

I am the website owner of two-three fairly large sites. I have noticed the same pattern with “site disappearance” – Usually, the serps are down for 4-5 days and then it somehow comes up again. Right now I have the same problem (again) with my main site. Hopefully it will be back to normal again within a few days

Thanks for the anecdotal evidence about the Google dance. It sure is hard to sit through one of those and keep your cool when all your hard work seems to be for nothing and the (little) money that you have earned has all but dried up. It is good to know that things end up pulling through in the end though.
