‘Somebody Save Me‘ is the title of the theme song for the TV series ‘Smallville‘.

For those who have not heard of Smallville, it is a tv series chronicling the life and upbringing of Clark Kent before he debuted as the red-caped superhero in blue tights. The series covers his story from the moment he crash-landed on earth to his teenage pre-superman years.

Smallville’s theme song is sung by (the group) Remy Zero. It has never really risen to household fame level/status, thus an average Smallville fan only gets to be familiar with, at most, 3 lines of the song’s chorus as it is the only portion played in an average episode. I eventually developed a liking to that portion of the song such that everytime the it is played, I always sing along with it. My son would get wide-eyed (and melo-dramatically ask ‘You ok dad?’) if I forget to sing along with it. So, a few days ago, my curiosity got the best of me (or perhaps my laziness level temporarily dropped to a record low) and I finally alloted time to search for the complete song. Not only was I able to hear the whole song but I found a video of the song performed by Remy Zero themselves and with lyrics shown as the song played.

On first hearing it I admit being mildly disappointed probably because I had higher expectations. I thought the other parts of the song did not do justice to the parts played on Smallville. I also thought the vocals is a little too tinny and without much power and timbre behind it. But then there are songs that blow you away at first acquaintance and there are songs that you grow a liking to the more you listen to it. The latter applies to ‘Somebody Save Me‘.
